Fire destroys Camino Pradera residence
A power surge in the area may have been the cause of a fire that destroyed a home on the corner of Camino Pradera and Tierra Monday evening.
"We don't know what the cause was. It is still under investigation," said Fire Inspector Tony Brinson, of the Yuma Fire Department. "I will be looking at this throughout the night and possibly into the morning."
Brinson said while it appears there was a power surge prior to the fire, it is just too soon in the investigation to determine what actually started the blaze.
The fire was reported at about 6 p.m. at 1713 West Camino Pradera. The two homeowners were inside the home at the time and escaped safely.
Brinson added that they had reports of two pets also being inside the home at the time of the fire, but firefighters had not made it inside the home yet to determine whether the animals had survived.
The home was severely damaged in the fire, possibly even a total loss. While threatened by the fire, no neighboring homes were damaged.
The fire was extinguished quickly once firefighters arrived on scene. Firefighters remained on the scene for over an hour making sure the fire was completely out.
Brinson said the wind played a factor when the fire spread to the attic and roof of the home.
