Fire destroys trailer home in Wellton

A vacant trailer home in Wellton was destroyed by fire early Saturday morning. There were no injuries reported.

According to the Wellton Fire Department, a man walking in the intersection of Dome Street and Oakland Ave discovered the fire at about 2 a.m. and immediately informed the owner of the property.

WFD was notified of the blaze and dispatched fire personnel to the scene along with units from the Wellton Police Department and employees with the Wellton-Mohawk Irrigation and Power District.

Arriving firefighters found the vacant residence fully engulfed in flames and quickly acted to extinguish the fire in order to prevent the possibility of it spreading to neighboring trailers.

Investigators on site determined the fire had started near the kitchen table, although the cause of the blaze has not yet been determined and is still being investigated. The American Red Cross Grand Canyon Chapter offered the two adult owners of the property assistance with food, clothing and shelter Saturday morning. The owners are currently staying at a son's residence.
