Firefighters extinguish semi-trailer fire

A semi-trailer caught fire Saturday morning in the area of Tierra Mesa Estates, off County 14th Street.

The Rural/Metro Fire Department received a report of a loud explosion behind a resident's house at 5:12 a.m.

The woman thought trees were on fire and a second caller reported a burning trailer, said Charly McMurdie, Rural/Metro public information officer.

When Rural/Metro arrived at the location, firefighters found a tractor trailer on fire and “quickly went to work to extinguish the blaze,” McMurdie said.

“There were no trees on fire, but the potential was there due to it being a residential area,” she added.

No one was in the truck, and no injuries were reported. The semi-trailer appears to be a total loss.

The fire is under investigation, McMurdie said.
