Road Report 10-27-13
Annual Fall Fog Seal Program
The city continues its annual Fall Fog Seal program the week of Oct. 28. Fog seal is a fresh oil spray that extends the life of the pavement. Application of the sealant requires at least half a street width to be closed at a time. Crews will notify neighborhood street residents via door hangers prior to work being conducted; these notices may include special parking instructions.
Fog seal schedule for the week of Oct. 28 through Nov. 1
• Casa Manana
• 12th Street from 1st Avenue to 2nd Avenue
• 13th Street from 1st Avenue to 4th Avenue
• E. 15th Street from Arizona Avenue to east end
Targeted areas for this year’s entire Fog Seal project will include the following:

Slurry Seal program Nov. 4
The City of Yuma will begin its annual fall Slurry Seal Program the week of Nov. 4, running through approximately Nov. 22. Working hours will typically be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays during that span. Main streets involved in this year’s program include:
• 24th Street, from Arizona Avenue to 4th Avenue
• 8th Street, 1st Avenue to Avenue A
• Arizona Avenue, 15th Street to 10th Street
• Subdivisions include:
• Thomas Addition
• Santa Maria
• Pecan Grove
• Su Casa

• Villa Cordova
Residents will be notified at their homes prior to work on their streets. Slurry seal takes up to 8 hours to dry, so some streets will be closed during sealant application and residents may be asked to make temporary parking arrangements.
Avenue D at County 9th Street
Beginning Thursday, Oct. 24, the intersection of Avenue D and County 9th Street (the same roadway that is called 16th Street inside City limits) will officially change to a 4-way stop instead of a 2-way stop. Message boards are in place to advise daily commuters of the upcoming change. Motorists are advised to use extra caution at this intersection as it may be some time until fellow motorists become accustomed to the change.
24th Street east of Avenue D
Yuma County is reconstructing a culvert underneath 24th Street east of Avenue D, a 3-week project resulting in the closure of 24th Street to through traffic between Avenue C and Avenue D. Local traffic only will be allowed between Avenue C and 46th Drive. Estimated completion is mid-November.
8th Avenue, 24th to 32nd
Some isolated lane restrictions continue through early next week on 8th Avenue between 24th Street and 32nd Street. Narrowing may occur on the northbound approach to 24th Street. In November, crews will return to apply permanent lane striping to the roadway.
24th Street, 31st Avenue to 33rd Drive
24th Street will have narrowed lanes and possible detours on the road shoulders between just east of 31st Avenue and just west of 33rd Drive for work related to construction of the Yuma Valley Area Park. Project is under way and expected to last until mid-winter.
