YCAT, food bank team up for drive

Beginning Monday, community members will be able to bring donations of nonperishable food items onto any Yuma County Area Transit (YCAT) bus for a free ride.

The Yuma County Intergovernmental Public Transportation Authority (YCIPTA) and Yuma Community Food Bank are partnering together on holding the first “Stuff the Bus Food Drive” in an attempt to drive away hunger in Yuma County.

Mike Ivers, president and CEO of Yuma Community Food Bank, said that this campaign will be a great opportunity for people in Yuma to continue to help stop the war on hunger locally.

He added that the food collected from the drive will help feed the 24,000 to 26,000 people that they serve each month, especially with the holiday season right around the corner.

“We're very grateful for YCIPTA Transit Director John Andoh ... and his leadership in offering the food bank this opportunity,” Ivers commented.

Donations can be brought on board any YCAT bus until Dec. 15.

Visit www.ycat.az.gov or www.yumafoodbank.org for more information about bus routes or suggested donation items, respectively.
