Amid the festivities, help those less fortunate

The Christmas spirit is alive in Yuma; just peruse the What's Going On column for listings of a wide variety of holiday events, from high school concerts to ballet to shows at the historic theater.

Saturday you can attend the electric light parade downtown, and soon the Christmas Village will open with a real snow-sledding hill and more events.

As the song goes, “it's the most wonderful time of the year.” But for those who are unemployed, it's a time of worry.

There are so many opportunities to help those less fortunate. Donate or bring food to the food bank and mission. Take the name of a child from one of the angel trees to put a big smile on a youngster's face. Help victims of abuse. Put a dollar in the kettle. Bring a toy for a tot. Aid someone through your church. Take your pick, but remember the holidays are about giving. A little can mean a lot.
