Disappointment is understandable
This letter is in reference to Greg Gardner's letter to the editor published on Nov. 18 (“Obama won but nation lost”) in which he expressed his frustration with the results of the 2012 presidential election. I think I know how he feels.
I believe I first experienced those feelings around 1980 when President Carter was in office. I think we tend to identify our country with the president of the United States. And when we are very disappointed with the actions of the president, we become very disappointed with our country.
When we see on TV a person is voting the way they are and it is for some totally harebrained reason, it is quite a letdown and tends to cheapen the value of our own vote.
I agree with Gardner that President Obama's agenda appears to be frightening for our country. He will preside over the failure of our current economic system when the borrowing of debt and printing of money eventually plays itself out.
We will all suffer and President Obama may go down as a really bad president like Carter, along with his party. Of course, he may be successful in blaming the entire problem on the Republican House of Representatives with the help of the mass media.
But I believe the people of this country will rise to the occasion, and once again America will become the producers of products and new ideas that will lead the world into the future. And this country will again have a sound economic foundation rather than the failing Federal Reserve system that we now have.
Just how ridiculous is the concept that this country's Gross National Product is based on consumer spending? The U.S. government borrows the money and it ends up in the hands of the consumers, and they in turn spend it on products imported to this country from other countries.
This country was not built on consumer spending. It was built on the hard work, ability and ingenuity of our producers and the liberty and opportunity that once flourished in this country.
Hopefully, we will move beyond this era of big government with the handcuffing of free enterprise and the movement to become a socialistic country.
