Youths show interest in leadership

Recently, a group of 170 Yuma-area high school students gathered at Yuma City Hall to participate in a video conference.

It is notable that it was the largest group of students in the state who took part in the Arizona Youth Town Hall on Civic Leadership for Arizona's Future.

It is a cliche that the future belongs to our children, but frankly we don't tend to think about young people being serious about most subjects, and that is especially true of civic leadership. So, the fact that so many attended was encouraging.

I also found it encouraging that one student said he came from an immigrant family and wanted to be leader so he could make a difference in the future.

His statement epitomizes why immigrants who have come to our nation looking for a better life have played such a big role in making America such a great nation.
