Alberto Garcia, a patient care technician with Davita Dialysis, has been named the Shining Star Caregiver for the clinic. The recognition comes from Yuma dialysis patients who named Garcia for being an outstanding caregiver.

Diane Umphress
Gov. Janet Napolitano has appointed Diane Umphress, the executive director of Amberly's Place, as a commissioner on the Commission to Prevent Violence Against Women.
 
The commission was established in 2003 and seeks to unite and enhance statewide efforts to prevent and end domestic and sexual violence. The commission makes policy and legislative recommendations to the governor.

Rosa Abundiz, Bill Murray
Rosa Abundiz and Bill Murray, local agents for Farmers Insurance Group, have completed the Careers Agent Course at the University of Farmers. The training enhances the agents' professional skill in meeting the insurance needs of their clients.

David Gaines
David Gaines, former director of the Yuma International Airport, has been named the 2008 Airport Executive of the Year by the Arizona Airports Association.
 
Gaines currently is the director of the Laughlin/ Bullhead International Airport in Bullhead City. He began his career in aviation with the Marine Corps, retiring after 26 years in service in air traffic control and airfield operations in locations around the world. He was with the Yuma airport from 1990 to 2006. In Bullhead City, he has overseen more than $10 million in airport construction improvements and worked to improve airport service there.
