Cibola guard Ashley Doering and Gila Ridge guard Summer Ehrig were named the co-players of the year for the region formerly known as the Gila Valley Region as voted on by the coaches.
Gila Ridge’s Mariah Carter, Kofa’s Jasmine Ortiz and Raider teammates Brandi Badilla and Kelsey Pangerl made the first team.
San Luis’ Teresa Velasco and Iriana Fibres, Gila Ridge’s Destiny Dillworth, Kofa’s Adly Wiley and Cibola’s Krystal Torres rounded out the second team.
Cibola coach Justin Hager was named the coach of the year.

Raiders put two on first team
Cibola guard Jordan Mitchell and post Deante Gaines were named to the region formerly known as the Gila Valley Region, voted on by the coaches Wednesday.
Kofa’s Daniel Santana and Gila Ridge’s Jonathan Turner also made the first team. Lake Havasu’s Brandon Neskahi was the player of the year.
Stevie Mitchell and Steven Loucks (Cibola), Orlando Lopez (Kofa), Zion Jones (Gila Ridge) and Austyn Roberson (Yuma High) made the second team.

Gila Ridge rolls past San Luis
In their first game of the year, the Hawks thumped the Sidewinders 20-0 on Wednesday.
Nikki Helland picked up the win for Gila Ridge, throwing three hitless innings while striking out five and walking one.
“Nikki threw the ball really well. Her change-up was on and her curveball was breaking better than it had in years past,” Gila Ridge coach Jaime McGalliard said.
Offensively, Kaelin Fox led the Sidewinders, going 4 for 5 with a home run and five RBIs.
ARIZONA WINTER LEAGUE
Boothe leads San Diego
Surf Dawgs starting pitcher Robert Boothe was nearly unhittable and San Diego beat Team Canada 9-1 on Wednesday.
Boothe threw a complete game, allowing one unearned run on two hits while striking four. Brandon Pearl went 2 for 3 for the Surf Dawgs with two RBIs and Cody Jones drove in three RBIs.
Elsewhere, Arizona beat Somerton 8-6, Long Beach beat San Luis 4-0, Calexico knocked out Yuma 12-5 and Blythe outslugged Saskatchewan 13-12.
