Gila Ridge wins season opener over San Luis

Gila Ridge senior libero Anahi Torres came up with 27 digs and the Hawks won their season opener, taking down San Luis 25-17, 25-22, 23-25, 25-22 at home Monday night.

“I feel like on both sides there was some sloppy play,” Gila Ridge coach Colleen Ford said.

The Hawks (1-0) got four aces from senior middle blocker/middle hitter Nikki Kelland, and sophomore outside hitter Allison Weller had eight kills in the win.

“I think we got some of the jitters out,” Ford said.

Gila Ridge plays at Kofa at 6 p.m. Wednesday, and San Luis (0-1) hopes to pick up its first win at home against Lake Havasu at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
