AWC men tie Glendale, still winless
The Arizona Western College Matadors men’s soccer team ended in a draw in their home opener with the Glendale Gauchos 2-2 Thursday evening in Yuma in their first game on the new AWC soccer field.
With the tie, the Matadors sit at 0-1-1 overall and 0-1-1 in ACCAC play, still winless on the year.
AWC got on the board in a hurry, just 40 seconds into the match. Arturo Valle received a pass from Eti Tavares which he buried into the back of the net for the game’s first goal.
The Matadors took a 2-1 lead when Jordan Evan’s marched down the field at the 39-minute mark, which was assisted by Tavares.
Early in the second half, Glendale got a quick goal from Gilbran Michel that proved to be the decider. Michel’s goal was assisted by Prince Gbeadeh.
