ON DECK: Pujols in a funk
I'm sure that every profession goes through ups and downs.
There are stretches where a carpenter's woodwork will not be as good as they usually produce. A sportswriter will have a period where he is proud of everything they write and then times where they want to throw their articles straight into the garbage.
It's called “being in a funk” and everybody goes through it.
Albert Pujols is going to hit a home run this year. In fact, he's going to hit many of them. Just because he went all of April without a home run doesn't mean his power days are over. Or the pressure of being on the Angels after they gave him a monster contract is getting the best of him. He's also going to finish with a higher batting average than .217 and he'll return to being one of the most feared hitters in baseball.
Carpenters build things with wood. Sportswriters write about sports. Albert Pujols hits baseballs for a living.
And he's very good at it.
