Extra revenue is available for city

I believe I have found two sources of untapped revenue for the city of Yuma.

First is ticketing speeders in construction zones. With the cooler weather, we come to expect more roadwork, which means more construction zones. I have lost count of how many times I see people pass me still doing the original speed limit when there are signs up saying 25 mph.

No one seems to care, and there are never cops around. Just the other morning, I witnessed a black Ford Raptor with the words “range warden” on the tailgate pay no mind to a flashing sign telling them to slow down.

Fines are doubled in a construction zone. Think of all the potential money that could be made off of all the individuals who can't be bothered to slow down for a moment.

Second, I have noticed that in front of some schools in the Yuma area, there are bike lanes. They are great, but when school is letting out for the day, parents park and wait in their cars in these lanes to pick up their kids, despite the no-parking signs placed everywhere.

Maybe once or twice a week, the city should have a cop start from one end of the offenders and work their way down handing out citations. It might help generate a little extra cash for the city — what do you think?
