Amendment adopted for self-protection

In the book "The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire," the author stated several times that if the people were armed, they would not have been subjected to the atrocities of their government.
Our Founding Fathers were voracious students of history, human nature and government.
The Second Amendment was adopted primarily so the citizens could protect themselves from oppressive or lunatic government.
Be very careful.
