City firefighters get grant for equipment
The Yuma Fire Department has been given a $69,000 federal grant that will go toward the purchase of equipment which will enhance fire operations and increase firefighter safety, the department said.
The city of Yuma will match 30 percent of the grant, to bring the total grant money to $99,000, the Yuma Fire Department said.
The $69,000 comes from The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, which is administered by the U.S. Fire Administration, a part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The grant is meant to help rural, urban and suburban fire departments, the YFD said in a news release.
The Yuma grant will help the department fund numerous equipment improvement efforts - which include equipment for the rapid intervention team - and will help with the costs of purchasing hand-held radios.
