ON DECK: Monica Huston

With another successful Yuma Sun/Yuma Rotary Club 2012 Fall Sports Banquet in the books, I wanted to point out two amazing feats.

This was my sixth fall banquet, 16th overall, and it's the first time I remember every football player being in attendance — I may be wrong, but I don't think I am. Nothing makes me feel more confident in what we do than seeing a perfect turnout in a six- or seven-player sport, let alone 26.

Then there is Monica Huston, who won her fourth-straight cross country runner of the year award. This hasn't happened in my time here and in talking with Randy Hoeft, he seems to think it may have happened one other time — with Yuma High's Jackie Johnson, who went on to compete in the 2008 Olympics.

I'm sure in almost three decades of this award, it has happened. But it was nice to see it happen while I was here.
