Area students join statewide band
Students from Yuma Union High School District schools will represent their campuses in a statewide all-region band and orchestra.
Local students auditioned recently at Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix against members from 44 other schools for the Arizona West All-Region Band and Orchestra.
They will participate in a two-day rehearsal followed by a concert Feb. 16 at Central High School in Phoenix.
Representing their high schools will be Michael Woodson and Sami Ahmed, Cibola; Stephanie Estabrook, Allyson Canales and Nathan Ksiazek, Gila Ridge; Caithlyn Draffen, Khaleil Grannum and James Draffen, Kofa; and Philip Guthrie, Chris Carter and Josh Owl, Yuma High. Carter placed first-chair in the region on trumpet, competing against more 50 other musicians.
