9 DUI arrests over holiday weekend
A DUI Enforcement Detail launched by Yuma police over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend resulted in nine arrests for driving under the influence.
There were 32 traffic stops, with 14 citations being issued, according to the Yuma Police Department.
The DUI Enforcement Detail ran Friday through Saturday and involved heightened patrols instead of checkpoints.
Two full-time DUI officers were on duty at any given time, plus three additional officers scheduled specifically for the holiday weekend. The hours for those additional officers were funded through a grant from the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety.
Throughout the holiday weekend, additional officers were out working at various times to detect and apprehend impaired drivers.
According to YPD, a significant number of fatal accidents in Arizona involve impaired drivers, and holiday weekends tend to result in increased numbers of impaired motorists across the nation.
