Cibola improves shot at home playoff game

Alan Fernandez had a goal and two assists as the Raiders, at least temporarily, took control of the eighth seed and final home playoff game with a 5-1 win over Gila Ridge in the 5A Gila Valley Region finale.
As of press time Thursday, the Raiders (7-5, 4-4) were listed eighth in AIA power points, bolstered by a win against region champ San Luis (11-2, 7-1) - which was ranked first late Thursday.
Carlos Peru, Abraham Flores, Enrique Rios and Abraham Rubio scored for the Raiders. The Hawks (2-10, 1-7) scored on a late penalty kick.
Pairings for the playoffs are announced Saturday.
"We're hoping we get a home game, but we don't know right now," coach Victor Preciado said. "No matter if we're home or away, we're ready."
