Where I come from, spring is just beginning to unfold, trees are leafing out in all shades of green, crops are being planted, tulips are blooming and the lakes begin to beckon with warmer temperatures.

In Yuma, we've been enjoying spring for at least a couple of months; ever-abundant sunshine is taken for granted; the blooming desert has faded and the heat of summer is fast approaching. Kids are anxiously awaiting the end of school days while anticipating fun at the pool or lake.

Now is the time to plan summer vacations, come up with ways to endure triple-digit temperatures and enjoy cooking outdoors to keep the heat away from the kitchen. In this issue of Southwest Living, we give you some options to consider.

Temecula, California, is a short drive away but offers cooler temperatures and a variety of opportunities for all kinds of fun.

The barbecue debates (mustard or tomato-based sauce, or a dry rub?) have been going on for ages, and everyone has their own favorite. We offer a few suggestions for delectable barbecue, (or barbeque?), inside.

The dream of a lake home getaway is one that many share; in this issue we take you inside a fabulous home on Lake Martinez, home to the Signs family.

We're fortunate to have the all-American pastime available in Yuma; affordable and fun, a Scorpions baseball game is a great way to spend some quality time with your family right here at home.

Enjoy this issue of Southwest Living with a tall glass of iced tea or lemonade. These are the lazy days of summer!
