In the Aug/Sept edition: Veggies, quilting and decor fun
Comments 0 | Recommend 0With high temperatures and humidity, August is perhaps Yuma's most challenging time of year. Whether or not they want to, many people spend the majority of that time indoors. So it's an ideal time to redecorate a room or do some maintenance in the home.
Maybe the quilt on the cover photo will inspire you to create your own artwork for decorating your home. It was made by Maureen Wolfe, who enjoys sewing quilts as well as displaying her home with them. Though the cats and greenery may look as though they've been painted onto the fabric, Wolfe actually hand appliquéd small pieces of fabric onto larger pieces to create the images. Her home is filled with her hand-sewn artwork.
When the weather starts to cool down in mid- or late September, you may want to migrate back outdoors to do some gardening. Many vegetables grow well in the Yuma area, and the fall is a good time to plant them. A Foothills gardener who grows most of his own produce shares his gardening advice.
I've also included articles on agaves, preventing water damage and decorating tips. I hope you enjoy reading this issue of Southwest Living. When you're finished, be sure to fill out the contest form for a chance to win a prize.
As always, I appreciate hearing your comments and suggestions about this magazine. Keep those phone calls and e-mails coming.
