No, it wasn't an April Fool's joke.

Google's latest technical innovation is a pair of glasses. To many, the idea of having instant streaming internet access with reminders of meetings, best map routes, the ability to take a photo in an instant, make a call and much, much more is exciting. It also opens up an entirely new marketing arena for businesses.

The fact is Google is an advertising company. They know what you search for, when you send an email through Gmail, what you watch on YouTube and where you go if you use GoogleMaps. They use this information to provide targeted advertising to you.

With these new glasses, businesses will be able to successfully market to individuals surfing the Internet as well as walking on their way to work while receiving a morning meeting reminder.

For users that currently communicate with their heads buried in a smartphone or tablet it will be interesting to see how people try to talk with a computer and pop up ads over their eyes!
