Maybe isle fell off edge of the world

There's no troubles with pestilence or pirates. It's just that li'l Sandy Island, as it turns out, doesn't exist.
Get out your erasers, map makers. This typo is a doozy and it's 116 years old. That's how long maps have shown the Manhattan island in the Coral Sea. Isn't it strange that neighbors never went knocking before now?
Researchers discovered the island's solidity issue when their ship was out to pass through land clearly drawn the map, but totally unseen ahead of the helm.
Sadly, there's no cool theories, like the island having been pulled into the deep by seismic forces. Early map makers simply relied too much on questionable accounts of land sightings — especially from rum-soaked pirates.
Had I been one of those pirates, I would have given some pretty rousing accounts of my time sailing to the always-charming Isle of Darindia...
