job searching
A one-hour workshop about online job searching will be offered at 1 p.m. Friday at the Foothills Library, 13226 E. South Frontage Road.
The free workshop will cover how to open an account on popular job searching Web sites, how to post a resume, and information on navigating other employment related Web sites.
Presenters will be Jeff Bowman, Foothills Library manager, and Michael Shelton, Yuma director of Arizona Linkages.

Business women meet
The Territorial Charter Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Ramada Inn-Chilton Conference Center, 300 E. 32nd St.
This month’s program, “The Fundamentals of Investing,” will be presented by Delma Luna, wealth adviser with Yuma Investment Group. In other business, officers for the 2009-2010 year will be elected. The meeting also includes dinner and networking.
Cost is $17, payable at the door. Guests are welcome to attend to learn more about the organization.

EEOC to visit Yuma
The Equal Employment Commission will visit Yuma this week to hold a public meeting and to meet privately with individuals who believe they have been a victims of employment discrimination.
The public meeting will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Holiday Inn, Colorado Room B, 1901 E. 18th St. Appointments with individuals are being made between 1 and 3 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday. EEOC investigators are bilingual.

Homebuyers seminar
A free homebuyers seminar will be hosted by Century 21 Osborne Realty Saturday at the new Yuma Main Library, 2951 S. 21st Drive. The seminar will be presented in English from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and in Spanish from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Topics will include the $8,000 tax credit being offered until Dec. 1, foreclosure and short sales and the Yuma market. Seminar participants also will have an opportunity to talk with a lender about credit repair and prequalification.

San Luis to hold job fair
The San Luis Chamber of Commerce in alliance with the Yuma Private Industry Council will host a job fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 30 at the Cesar Chavez Cultural Center, 1015 N. Main St. in San Luis, Ariz. Registration is free.
The job fair will include a series of workshops on resume writing, interviewing skills, dress for success and job search strategies. Businesses on hand will include SOS Staffing, Arizona Western College, Marine Corps and Army, Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Hunter Employment, Goodwill, Cocopah Indian Tribe and Northern Arizona University-Yuma.

SAHRA to hear about SMART
Information on a new program that provides information to employers on how to survive during the economic downturn and manage layoffs will be presented during the SAHRA (Southwest Arizona Human Resources Association) monthly meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ramada Inn-Chilton Conference Center, 300 E. 32nd St.
The program, SMART (Strategies Mandatory at Recessionary Times) Training, is being offered through the Yuma County Chamber of Commerce and Yuma Private Industry Council.
The business survival module will be led by Ken Rosevear, executive director of the chamber. He will share 12 principles he learned through 30 years of owning and managing businesses. Layoff training will be provided by Cynthia Marshall, YPIC business services officer who previously worked for the Yuma Sun for 20 years in sales, training and human relations.

Workplace Excellence
nominations sought
Nominations are now being accepted for this year's Workplace Excellence, an annual awards program that recognizes businesses in Yuma with excellent people practices.
Businesses are nominated by employees. After the application process, judges will select the winning businesses. Awards recognize best practices in small, medium and large businesses, one overall winner and one special award winner. Winners will be recognized at a luncheon Nov. 4.
The program now in its fifth year was created by the Southwest Arizona Human Resources Association and the Yuma Sun.

Mall management creates
community fund
Inland Continental Property Management Corp. has announced the creation of a Yuma Palms Regional Center Community Fund, providing a $50 donation in the form of one or more Yuma Palms Regional Center gift cards that the nonprofit recipients may use in any way that assists their nonprofit organization, such as purchasing auction and raffle items, door prizes and gifts to volunteers.
Nonprofits can access an application on the Yuma Palms Web site www.shopyumapalms.com (click on the link for the community fund at the bottom of the home page).
The request must be submitted two months prior to the date the card is needed. Applications will be considered at the end of each month. An organization may receive only one award a calendar year.
