Fun on the Fly - August 2008
I know, I know. It's August, it's hot, and there's nothing to do, right?
Well, not quite.
We've got a few suggestions to keep you and your family entertained this month.
- Check out Lutes from 7-9 p.m. Aug. 1, 15 and 22. Yuma Jazz Company will be cooling down the evening with smooth, family-friendly tunes. So stop by, have an especial and an ice cream cone, and enjoy the music.
- The Yuma Art Center's Youth Summer Theater Camp will present "Seussical Jr." at 7 p.m. Aug. 1 and 2 p.m. Aug. 3 at the center, located at 254 S. Main St. Dr. Seuss' characters come to life in this family-friendly event. Tickets, available at the door, cost $5 for adults, and $3 for children under 11.
- Registration is also going on the first week of August for a variety of youth athletics, including scuba, fallball, youth hockey and teeny bopper softball. For more details, check out eventsinyuma.com
- The Art Center will also be the location for "Stamping the World," an art class for kids age 5-12. The class will be held Aug. 2 and 9. Registration is $17 for non-residents, and $11 with a city resident credit.
- Teens driving you batty? Send them to the city of Yuma's Teen Swim Night at Kennedy Pool, every Thursday from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. through Aug. 14. Teens aged 13-18 are welcome, and admission is $1 per person.
- Compkato will be filling the Yuma Theatre with the sounds of danzon, cumbia, rock, ballads, classic rock and boleros. Sponsored by the Cultural Council of Yuma, pre-sale tickets are $5, available at the Art Center, or $10 the day of the show.
- Stop by the Yuma Theatre Aug. 20 to cheer on your favorite Yuma Star. The contest will be held from 7-9 p.m. The theater is located at 254 S. Main St., and admission is $4.
