Kofa trounces Sunrise Mountain 13-4
Kofa hit four triples, two in a seven-run fourth inning, on the way to a 13-4 blowout against No. 4 Peoria-Sunrise Mountain on Thursday at Peoria Baseball Stadium in a Class 5A Division II State Baseball Playoff second-round loser bracket game.
Kofa pounded out 16 hits, and benefited from fourth-inning triples off the bat of Simon Corea and Claudio Valencia.
Corea picked up the win, going the distance for the Kings' first complete game of the season, said Kofa coach Richy Leon.
"I don't know if we'll be able to keep it up," Leon said of the offense, which scored 22 runs in its last two wins after an opening round 3-2 loss to Marcos de Niza. "We had some good things kind of snowball to into great things there for us. Hopefully we be able to build on it."
The Kings will face Marcos de Niza again at 1 p.m. Saturday at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
