Library preparing for cafe bids
Friday, May 21 marks the one-year anniversary of the Main Library.
Thanks for a great year! We’ve received a lot of feedback from the community and have been working hard to create a library environment that is comfortable and convenient. It is so rewarding to see families and individuals interacting and spending time at the library, enjoying the books, magazines, newspapers, computers and free wireless Internet, as well as the many programs the library has to offer.
We’ve increased the number of story times and computer classes, and we are adding new activities all the time. Tween and teen clubs meet several times a month to discuss books and graphic novels, create artwork, write short stories and play games.
Over 90 community groups have taken advantage of the library’s multiple meeting rooms. Even the U.S. Census made the district libraries its home, using them several times a week to conduct testing and training, plus provide questionnaire assistance.
In response to questions regarding when the libraries’ cafés will open, the library district anticipates requesting proposals from potential vendors sometime within the next month. If you are interested and want to get on the mailing list to receive notification of the request for proposal, please contact Lana Heston, administrative manager, at 373-6460 or lheston@yumalibrary.org. We know patrons (and staff!) are looking forward to being able to purchase snacks and refreshments.
Other goals this year include implementing a system to allow the use of debit/credit cards to pay fines at the libraries and online, and providing the ability to sign up for a library card online.
Finally, the staff at the Main Library thanks Mike Esquivel at the Flower Mine for donating fresh flowers for the Circulation Desk every week!
