Choose light — ‘A real help in darkness'
A young woman was listening to a sermon on a CD. As the speaker preached his message, the woman saw a mental picture of herself just beyond the beams of a huge searchlight.
The Holy Spirit spoke to her heart and, as a result, she understood this to be a picture of the searchlight of God's Holy Spirit. She could either step into the light of the searchlight and let God search her heart or she could run into the darkness beyond the light and not walk or live in the light.
Her heart broke before God and with humility, she stepped into the searchlight of God's Holy Spirit. There and then she asked God to search her heart and reveal to her the things that did not please Him, her Heavenly Father.
Paul, the Apostle, talks about this in Ephesians 5:8. He says that we “were once in darkness but now you are light in the Lord. Live as the children of light.” Note specifically what Paul says: “For you were once darkness but now you are light.” We are the light of God in this world. We are his expression of graciousness and goodness. I have related on more than one occasion, to many, “We are God's kingdom in this world and God's kingdom is a kingdom of light.”
Notice what the 10th verse says: “Find out what pleases the Lord.” Let's make that our goal to find out what pleases God and walk in His pleasure.
