PREP BOYS BASKETBALL
Knights own boards, dump Hawks
Lake Havasu used a dominating performance on the offensive glass to defeat Cibola 67-63 on Tuesday.
“They beat us up pretty bad on the boards — they had more offensive rebounds than we had total,” Cibola coach Tim Keller said. “I think we outplayed them in all other aspects, but they killed us on the rebounds.”
Jordan Mitchell paced the Raiders with 20 points and Paul Mitchell scored 18.
Cibola (10-4 overall, 0-1 Gila Valley Region) plays at Calexico today in a non-region, non-AIA game.
Eagles edge Shamrocks
Tommy Pistone broke out for a season-high 28 points on seven 3-pointers, but it wasn’t enough for Yuma Catholic as they fell 72-61 against Phoenix Country Day at home on Tuesday.
The Shamrocks’ Bradley Crye scored 15 points but missed most of the second half while dealing with foul trouble.
YC (11-7) plays at River Valley on Friday.
Kofa rolls past Gila Ridge
Charles Weekly had 21 points as Kofa topped Gila Ridge 67-46.
Jorge Barreda added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Kings. Corey Semler had 15 points to lead the Hawks. He made two 3-pointers in the first quarter to keep things close, but Kofa pulled away in the second. Mike Pancrazi had 14 points and made all six of his free throws for the Hawks.
Rams fall to Broncs
Parker scored the last 12 points of the first half to take control in a 68-43 win over Antelope.
A.J. Cota had 12 points to lead the Rams (3-5). Chris Weimer had eight points and seven rebounds.
PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL
Raiders roll Knights
Cibola defeated Gila Ridge 51-29 on the road Tuesday to open Gila Valley Region play with a win.
Kelsey Pangerl scored 12 points and Brandi Badilla added 11 rebounds for the Raiders.
Cibola plays at Gila Ridge on Friday.
Shamrocks crush Eagles
Yuma Catholic picked up its fourth win of the season with a 50-22 victory at home against Phoenix Country Day on Tuesday.
Mary Terkelsen led the Shamrocks with 14 points and Sydney Mixon scored nine points and had seven rebounds.
Yuma Catholic (4-9) plays at River Valley on Friday.
Antelope falls to Parker
Katlyn Jones had 12 points but it wasn’t enough in a 42-30 Antelope loss to Parker.
Annie Leon added eight for the Rams (1-7).

Hawks blank Knights
Gila Ridge’s defense held Lake Havasu to two shots as the Hawks defeated the Knights 8-0 at home Tuesday.
Jordan Ruiz and Alberto Saavedra both had two goals and Landy Altienza got the shutout in goal.
The Hawks (3-5) play at Kofa on Friday.
Yuma High slips past Cibola
Christian Raya split two Cibola defenders with three minutes left in the second overtime to give Yuma high a 2-1 win over Cibola.
The Raiders score first in the 20th minute, but Yuma High (4-3) answered back with a goal from Sergio Moreno, assisted by Jario Diaz.
PREP GIRLS SOCCER
Sosa shuts own Kings
Carolyn Sosa made seven saves as San Luis topped Kofa 1-0.
Montse Rodriguez had the lone goal for the Sidewinders (5-2), coming in the 72nd minute. Kofa outshot San Luis 12-6.
Shamrocks rebound at Holtville
Yuma Catholic rebounded from a 7-0 loss Monday to defending state champion Estrella Foothills with a 3-1 win at Holtville Tuesday.
Monday’s loss was the first game the Shamrocks (9-3) played without their leader in goals and assists, Ali Quintana. Tuesday was their first win without her.
“Hopefully, this game helps us gain a little more confidence,” said YC coach Jesus Quintana, also the father of Ali Quintana. “Let’s keep improving and get back on track.”
YC’s Krysta Aitken scored the only goal of the first half, than Morgan Frank added two second-half goals. Goalie Mikaela Jackson had eight saves.
