Texting at the table not too friendly
I recently had lunch with two friends of mine. They are both in their 20s.
The experience was not a pleasant one, because throughout lunch they kept sending and responding to texts from their friends.
Now, I could see if they were physicians and had to stay in constant contact with their staff about patients’ needs - then the texting would be necessary and acceptable.
But they’re not. They were just sending silly, random texts.
People today really have become addicted to their phones and throw aside manners simply to stay abreast of their friends’ trivial pursuits.
I know I sound like a grumpy old man. But, really? People can’t ignore their phones for just one hour to communicate with a real person sitting across from them?
Maybe I should start dining alone - or look for new friends.
