Two shot in mugging Friday

Two victims were shot during a mugging in Yuma’s North End Friday night. Both victims, whose identities were not released by police, were transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center where they were treated for non-life threatening gunshot wounds.

According to the Yuma Police Department, the incident happened at about 8:15 p.m. Friday night as the victims were walking along the 100 block of S. 9th Avenue.

The victims told police they were approached from behind by two men wearing dark colored sweatshirts with hoods and blue jeans. The men demanded the victims hand over their wallets and any money they had.

After receiving money from the victims, one of the muggers shot both of them. The muggers then fled the area before the arrival of police.

The shooter is described as 20 to 25 years of age, thin, light skinned, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a thin goatee. He was wearing a dark hat at the time of the incident. The second man is the same age, build and height. No other description or any further information about the incident was available Saturday.

This incident is still under investigation. YPD encourages any witnesses to the incident to call them at 373-4700 or 78-Crime to remain anonymous.
