What's needed: When it's needed, God does that

A boy was on the roof of his grandfather's barn enjoying his summer visit to the farm. He knew he should not be up there in the first place. It was a long drop from the large barn with a metal roof to the ground.

Quicker than a flash, when he started to slip, the adventurous boy breathed a prayer. “God help me,” he exclaimed. That was all he had time for.

No sooner had he spoken the words than his bib overalls snagged on a nail sticking up from the roof. He was scratched by the nail that stopped him — but he was safe.

Realizing that the peril of falling was gone, he looked up to heaven again. This time he said:, “It's OK, Lord; I don't need you now. The nail did the trick.”

It's funny how our attitudes toward our needs change. Situations come and go; we experience different kinds of needs. God is available and able to help in all our “difficulties.”

We frequently do not recognize that the “nail” was help from God.

The Rev. Paul Killingsworth serves as pastor at Yuma First Assembly.
