ON DECK: Suns will trade Nash
I’d be willing to bet my Christmas money that Steve Nash will be gone from Phoenix by the trade deadline.
The Suns are not a good basketball team, plain and simple. They have a collection of nice players — Robin Lopez, Channing Frye, Jared Dudley, etc. — but that gets you, in the best-case scenario, a middle-of-the-pack team in the West.
I understand how popular Nash is and it’s difficult to trade a fan favorite, but how important is a fan favorite if you’re losing by 20 points to Philadelphia at home? Granted, it’s a little early to be breathing into a paper bag about the Suns’ season when it’s only two games in.
But Phoenix’s roster is not built for the future. They’re built to run in place — even a little backwards — as they frantically chase that NBA title on the end of a string.
Trading Nash won’t be popular, but if your foundation is rotting away, it’s wise to trade in that beautiful grandfather clock for some fresh 2x4s.
