Yuma baseball team putting vote for new mascot
The Yuma Panthers will never play a game.
The new ownership of the Panthers announced its “Yuma Name Your Team Contest,” which will allow fans to enter submissions on the team's Facebook page, facebook.com/YumaProBaseball.
President Tim Ferguson and vice president Tina Eaton said the franchise is looking for a name that connects to the community.
“We want the community of Yuma to name the professional baseball team they're going to have for the next ...” Ferguson started, then paused, allowing Eaton to jump in
“Forever.”
“Forever,” repeated Ferguson.
“We want a team name that's here to stay,” Eaton finished.
Submissions can be made until Oct. 16. They will be judged by the franchise and a still-to-be-selected committee of community members, Ferguson said.
“I think it's the first step of us showing we're going to take this thing in a different direction,” said Ferguson.
