Nicole Chavez

Somerton resident Nicole Chavez, a student at Kofa High School, has been nominated to represent Arizona as a national youth correspondent at the 2013 Washington Journalism and Media Conference at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.

Chavez was chosen based on academic accomplishments and a demonstrated interest.

Priscilla Hernandez

Yuma resident Priscilla Hernandez, a student at Gila Ridge High School, has been nominated to represent Arizona as a national youth delegate at the 2013 Washington Youth Summit on the environment at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.

Hernandez was chosen based on academic accomplishments and a demonstrated interest.

Nicole Perez

Nicole Perez has been chosen as the Yuma County Library District's employee of the month for February.

Perez was praised for her ability to work with everyone thanks to her calm and gentle nature. She also was described patient and always willing to help the Foothills Library patrons.

Jose L. Salazar

Army Pfc. Jose L. Salazar has returned to the U.S. after being deployed overseas at a forward operating base to serve in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He is an assistant gunner and cannon crewmember assigned to the Fourth Airborne Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. He has served in the military for one year.

Salazar, the son of Jose and Graicela Salazar of Somerton, is a 2007 graduate of Cibola High School.
