Singing the praises of YCT's Oklahoma!' and other letters...

Singing the praises of YCT's Oklahoma!'

The Yuma Community Theater is alive and doing incredibly well, both musically and theatrically.

As a cast member's guest at a dress rehearsal for "Oklahoma!," the production was so remarkably entertaining that I found myself wondering, "Where do they find these people?"

Having participated in the world of music for about 60 years, one might seem qualified to some degree in commenting on the YCT's performance of this popular, ageless and artistically complex musical.

From "top to bottom" (so to speak), the cast handled their various acting, singing and dancing roles professionally, with verve and an obvious joy that was infectious.

It is not an exaggeration to compare YCT's work with others the writer has experienced in much larger communities, including the Omaha Community Theater, which ranks with the very best.

Last season's "The Sound of Music" was in the same class.

Contributions made difference for kids

This letter of gratitude is sent to all the Wellton Community members who contributed to the Santa Helper Program organized at Wellton Elementary School. It was a great success!

Students from Dateland, Mohawk and Wellton Elementary Schools and Antelope High School were recipients of your generosity. You shared your spirit of Christmas with over 150 children by providing personalized gifts and food boxes.

We are most appreciative to all of you for your thoughtfulness. Your generosity is as warm as Yuma's sun. In this little part of the world, YOU made a difference in a child's life. Thank you very much.

Sang musical's tunes all the way home

We attended the opening night performance of the great musical "Oklahoma!" at the Historic Yuma Theatre on Main Street. The performance was so enjoyable with the volunteer cast putting out such great effort and displaying such great talent.

We learned it's the 50th anniversary of this well-known Rodgers and Hammerstein production and also the 100th anniversary of the state of Oklahoma joining the union.

We got in a "little surrey with the fringe on top" and treated ourselves to a grand evening of entertainment! We enjoyed the live music and sang the songs all the way home.

Remember, Oklahoma - OK!
