Candidates need to support all of Yuma
As voters we really have to look at everything about a candidate and get a feel for the one we believe in. My biggest concern has been, which one of you is actually for all the people of Yuma?
Well, here is a challenge. Let’s see which one of you will actually respond to this.
We live in a state where minimum wage is at its worst.
Have any of you really looked at listings for rental properties? Is there even rent control in this city? It takes both people in each household to work just to meet their rent.
But what about utilities? Where do you hear of other states paying what we pay for electricity? During the summer, are you even aware how many people pay almost the same amount for electricity as their rent, and having to pay for childcare, and having to meet all other needs, just to survive? So many people live in such a poverty level, just to keep a roof over their children’s heads and food on the table.
Are you really looking to make a change for everyone, not just those with big wallets? In all my years here in Yuma, never have I heard of anyone who runs for office talk about rent control.
Have any of you taken a good drive around the poverty areas, and talk to the people, and really listen to them and theirs needs?
I bet you will find more loyalty among voters in those areas, if they knew someone really cared.
People from other states come in and buy up homes and then want to charge such outrageous rents. Take a tour of the shelter, and look at how many people have to be there because of an eviction, due to loss of a job, or because there are no jobs.
Step up to the plate and show that one of you really does care. If I was able to have a sit down with just one of you, I could talk your ear off, with some eye openers.
