The sound of construction for Burlington Coat Factory has been music to the ears of Southgate Mall management.

With the promise of the major tenant coming soon, interest has perked up among other businesses, said local manager Bobbi Brooks-Gurrola.

She announced last week that two new businesses have opened their doors, a third is expanding and negotiations continue with other prospective tenants.

Yolanda Sanchez, owner of Yolie's Flowers, specializes in silk florals. She has an inventory of ready-made arrangements or will make custom arrangements for a wedding or other special event.

The shop can be reached at 488-9889.

Arturo Banuelos Jr. has opened a hip teen clothing and accessory shop, Seven 23 Industries, offering T-shirts, shorts, shoes, hats and belt buckles in such name brands as Skin.

  The phone number is 726-9223.

Last winter, Senny Banuelos opened a kiosk to sell purses, jewelry and perfume. She has since moved her fragrance business to a space of its own and now is looking to expand to clothing sales.

As for Burlington Coat Factory, the retailer is working toward opening in time for back-to-school shopping.

Marc Givens and Jason Spencer have a better idea for the removal of acres of trees and bushes than the conventional burning that produces irritating pollutants or disposing of the waste in the local landfill.

Givens and Spencer, third-generation members of area pioneering families, have joined forces to start Blue Sky Burning and Excavation.

Using the latest state-of-the-art outdoor incinerator, which burns at up to 2,800 degrees, Blue Sky can incinerate green waste and other burnable refuse at the rate of up to 10 tons an hour with virtually zero particulates and smoke emissions and no leftover waste.

Blue Sky's receiving facility is at 14375 S. Avenue 2-1/2E just south of East County 14th Street.

It welcomes all landscape maintenance companies, tree services and others for disposal of grass clippings, tree limbs and prunings, tree stumps, palms and palm prunings and other burnable refuse.

The facility is open from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

The business also can remove trees and dense brush with a one-of-a-kind machine that clears and grinds the vegetation into ground mulch in minutes. The method is helpful in thinning citrus groves as it doesn't disturb adjacent trees and eliminates the need for burning the removed trees.

For more information, call Givens at 257-0929 or Spencer at 210-2557, or e-mail awesam72@aol.com.
