When the scourge of meth addiction hits home
Our paper’s “The Dangers of Meth” series really hit home with me.
I knew someone who was hooked on the drug. One night while he was high on meth and driving home, he thought the devil was chasing him.
Seeking refuge, he drove to the nearest church. But it was about 2 in the morning and the church doors were locked. He banged on the doors but no one answered. So he shattered one of the stained glass windows and crawled in over it, slicing himself on the stomach with the jagged edges.
Bleeding severely, he crawled to the front of the church and collapsed.
A priest found him later that morning. He was taken to the hospital, where he went into shock and had a massive heart attack.
Instead of celebrating his 25th birthday that day, we were preparing his funeral.
