Don't believe claims Saddam wasn't threat
Bill O'Farrell's Dec. 29 letter to the editor caught my eye for all the wrong reasons. I vehemently disagree that the late Saddam Hussein was not a threat to the "security" of the U.S. And I don't think it makes any difference if you fought in a war to justify your opinion as level-headed.
That vicious ruler used his weapons of mass destruction to kill thousands of his own countrymen. He was poised to crank out a nuclear bomb as well. After Israel, who do you think his target would be? Remember he's the guy who let the terrorists into his country for training and hiding out, the ones in the same club who killed many of our own people on Sept. 11.
The trouble is that O'Farrell has been fed large doses of Joe Wilson-type "news." After awhile folks start to believe such flimsy tripe. O'Farrell should reread Mike Shelton's excellent column next to his letter on the Holocaust denials put out by those lovable folks in Saddam Hussein's neighborhood.
As Hitler, now Iran, and the Libs here believe, tell a lie often enough and a lot of gullible people begin to think it's true. But he's not going to help the mass media types multiply those falsehoods this time without at least one angry woman to disagree!

Traffic problems due to obeying laws
A lot of the traffic problems in Yuma are created by us old retired people that were born and raised to obey the laws. We stop for yellow lights that are about to turn red when one more car could have gone through on yellow and two more on red before the third one gets wishboned.
No wonder tailgating is a problem when we drive 35 mph when the speed limit is 35 mph. Everyone knows 40 or 45 mph is safe from prosecution. If those behind you are going to pass, they have to be on your bumper so they can dart out and beat you to the next red light.

Real misinformation came from elsewhere
In response to the Dec. 31 letter to the editor headlined "Lots of misinformation about John Kerry," the real misinformation was provided by the "Swift Boat" group about Kerry.
John McCain's military record was also denigrated in the 2000 primary by people who don't care about anyone's reputation or record. They are only out to destroy.

Kick the drug habit in the United States
We live at Rocky Point (Puerto Penasco) in Mexico most of the year and read your newspaper on the computer as well as watching TV on the Phoenix stations. I read your story about 1,300 pounds of marijuana found at San Luis Rio Colorado, Son.
I know this happens all too often and we, along with many in the U.S., would like to see all illegal drug trafficking stopped. It occurs to us if there was not such a big demand for drugs in the U.S., there would be no market from Mexico and other countries.
Are we a nation of druggies? What is the solution? The best solution would be kick the habit in the U.S.
