Congress members need to be sent home
Have you noticed the number of politicians who are jumping ship (retiring)? There's a train wreck down the line and these guys don't want to be identified as principals in that derailment. Several years ago in an article I submitted to the opinion section of the Yuma Sun, I wrote that both parties were guilty of stalemate, greed and avarice and reforms in government were impossible because these parties' interests were not the same as the peoples' interest. Social Security, Medicare, crime, waste in government, over-taxation, IRS reforms, balanced budgets and immigration are not recent problems. They have been ongoing for years and these legislators could care less. The insurance lobbies, the bankers' lobbies and the union lobbies were the ones to be taken care of first and foremost!
The politicians recognized the importance of currying their favors if they wanted to be re-elected. These special interest groups received tax breaks and special treatment, and we the people paid the bills for them. That's the way it works within the beltway in Washington. Even today there are no outward signs there of a depression, unemployment, foreclosures, drop in home values because these lobbies have profited from we the taxpayers. The private jets, Mercedes, the yachts and only the choice and most expensive wines served in those numerous elegant restaurants. Who wouldn't want that lifestyle? On top of that, we are expected to foot the bill for their re-election.
I mention these things not out of jealousy or envy, but of what has taken place under our watch. We have all sat by and encouraged this activity ourselves. Now we are seeing a gradual decline in our moral and spiritual values. We are hesitant to vote for people of integrity anymore. Character doesn't matter, we are mostly illiterate of the issues and have little desire to read or to see how much effect it will have on them. We tend to see government as our mommies and daddies to provide us with what we need instead of looking to ourselves for solutions to our problems. We are reaping what we have sown. A majority of people are becoming dependent on government! Think about this: Government does not earn money, it only knows how to spend it and it has an insatiable appetite for more and more. It is we the people who make the economy grow! It's the people who create jobs but if we continue to burden them with red tape and excessive taxation, we kill job creation. That is what has happened. The halls of Congress are filled with people who say one thing, yet do another. They need to be sent home because they have lost touch with the grassroots.
