A solution to sinking cell phones

Someone once told me they had a work colleague who kept dropping his cell phone in the toilet.

Odd, I thought. I hadn't heard of that happening before.

Based on an article I came across on the website mashable.com recently, it actually isn't that rare. It seems that almost 20 percent of people have dropped their cell phones in the toilet.

The piece didn't explain how it happens, and I doubt those who do it talk much about it. So I guess we have to imagine.

Anyway, the website explained there may be a way to save your water-logged cell phone. You shake it off completely and dry it off. If you can remove the battery, do so. Then stick everything in a plastic bag with enough raw rice to cover it, as soon as possible. If you are lucky, after 24 hours the rice will pull out any remaining moisture and the phone will work.

Or better yet, be careful around toilets.
