Yuma police investigating drive-by shooting
Yuma police are investigating a drive-by shooting that happened early Sunday morning in the area of 5th Street and 10th Avenue.
According to Sgt. Dave Hartman, of the Yuma Police Department, at about 3:18 a.m. officers responded to the scene in reference to a call of shots fired. During the investigation, police identified Tyre Hendrix as the shooter, who fired three to five shots.
Hartman said immediately following the shooting a deputy from the Yuma County Sheriff's Office chased Hendrix's sedan for about a mile, to the 2400 block of the West Main Canal, where Hendrix got out of his car and fled on foot. The car ended up in the canal.
“The deputy was driving through the neighborhood when the shots were fired,” Hartman said. “He saw the vehicle and pursued it.”
No one was injured in the shooting and the YPD Investigation Bureau has been notified of the incident and has taken over the investigation.
Hartman said Hendrix is currently wanted for questioning in this case.
