Yuma police question person in parking lot shooting

While Yuma police are still investigating a shooting that happened earlier this month, they have now spoken to at least one person who was involved.

According to Officer Joe Franklin, a spokesman for the Yuma Police Department, detectives have interviewed a male subject who has been identified as the person who fired the weapon. He was released after being questioned pending further investigation.

“We are still seeking witnesses and further information on the case,” Franklin said.

On Jan. 12 at about 2 a.m., officers responded to the parking lot of 3780 S. 4th Ave. for a report of a disturbance.

Once on site, police learned an altercation in the parking lot led to multiple shots being fired. All the subjects involved in the incident fled the area prior to police arrival. Evidence recovered at the scene indicates multiple rounds were fired and struck the ground.

YPD has not released any information about those who were involved, what led to the fight, or what weapon or weapons were used, stating the investigation is ongoing.

YPD asks anyone with information about this case to call Detective J. Skaggs at (928) 373-4702 or 78-Crime to remain anonymous.
