Prayer helps, especially when God is involved

Two men were passing through a field enjoying a walk in the country. Realizing a large bull was charging them, they started for the nearest fence.

It was apparent the runners could not make it before the angered bull caught them. Running as fast as possible one said: “John, pray now! We're in trouble.”

John replied, as they ran across the field: “I can't. I've never prayed in my life.”

John's friend responded: “You've got to pray now! That bull is getting closer.”

“All right,” John said. “I'll pray the only prayer I know, the one my father always used when we sat at the table. ‘Oh Lord for what we are about to receive, make us truly thankful.'”

Prayer is talking to God. Sometimes our prayer is in desperation, out of a desperate circumstance or situation. God's invitation is: “Call for help when you are in trouble ~ I'll help you and you will honor me.” Psalm 50:15 [MSG]

Friendship and personal interest with God can be seen in prayer that declares his gracious nature.

Mickey prayed: “Dear God, if you watch me in church on Sunday, I'll show you my new shoes.” Another prayer heard by a student in school: “Dear God, I didn't think orange went with purple until I saw the sunset you made on Tuesday. God that was cool!”

God's work is wonderful, personal, and beyond our capacity to imagine. Talk to God continuously, and talk to others constantly about his goodness… “Remember, God is a blessing from now and tomorrow and always. From the east to west, from dawn to dusk, keep lifting all your praises to God.” Psalm 113:3-4 [MSG]
