Electoral College system is needed
This letter is in response to Greg Stone's March 1 letter about changing the system that elects our president. While he is correct in stating that one of the reasons for the Electoral College was to eliminate the "favorite son" vote, he fails to realize that the system is needed now more than ever.
I don't know Mr. Stone's political views but I do know mine and I'm proud to say that I'm a conservative that believes in God's moral values and absolutes. It is bad enough that we have liberal judges in the Northeast and in the state of California that seek to make laws versus interpreting them, they seem to have forgotten that laws are made by the legislative branch of government not the judicial.
But to have these two liberal populous regions determine the fate of the presidential election every time and thus push their agenda upon the rest of the country is quite ludicrous.
Mr. Stone, you are entitled to your opinion but I think that this country's forefathers were quite knowledgeable and ahead of the curve to have designed a system such as this. It is bad enough to see what is happening in our nation with a God-believing conservative president in office such as President Bush, but one can only speculate how much further our moral values would be compromised if former Vice President Al Gore had been elected per the popular vote.
By the way the White House was not stolen. It was reported by Reuters on May 11, 2001 that a study of Florida's disputed ballots conducted by USA Today, the Miami Herald, Knight Ridder newspapers and six Florida newspapers determined that President Bush would have won the hand recount of all disputed ballots.
It just seems that this fact is overlooked by the liberal media and has never really been reported to mainstream America. All they seem to say is that President Bush was appointed by the Supreme Court versus being truly elected. If they keep the population in the dark then they can spread whatever falsehoods they wish. The only true defense against this is to constantly research and seek the truth.
