New principal appointed at San Luis HS
San Luis High School has a new principal.
Carrie Stadler was officially approved for hire this week by the Yuma Union High School District governing board.
Stadler was previously assistant principal for activities and discipline at SLHS.
Mark Bastin, YUHSD associate superintendent, said she was selected by a hiring committee from a pool of 20 candidates.
The committee consisted of administrative officials, a member of the governing board, Kofa High School Principal Gina Thompson, SLHS faculty, classified staff and a San Luis parent.
They considered three main factors: level of experience, Arizona administrative licensing qualification and familiarity with English Language Learner instruction methods.
"She just stood out among everyone else who was in the screening process. It was very clear ... The committee was in consensus," Bastin said.
She replaces Mary Lynn Coleman, who was promoted to director of human resources for the district.
Stadler is a native of Wisconsin and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She began her career with YUHSD as a mathematics teacher at Kofa High in 1993. She became mathematics chair at SLHS in 2001, before the school opened, and was promoted to assistant principal in 2005.
She holds a master's of education degree from Northern Arizona University-Yuma.
