ON DECK: Inconsistent Jeff Gordon ruling

Jeff Gordon waits for and takes out Clint Boyer at Phoenix, gets a $100,000 fine and loses 25 points. Ouch, huh? Not really.

Apparently there is a separate rule book for drivers like Gordon.

Case in point: In April at Texas, Kyle Busch intentionally took out Ron Hornaday in a Camping World Truck Series race, and was parked for the weekend; no Nationwide race, no Sprint Cup race.

NASCAR President Mike Helton said, “The responsibility that over the past two or three seasons we've given back to the drivers came, I think, with a very clear understanding that there could be a line that got crossed. And as annoying as the comments that I've made personally in the past of ‘we'll know it when we see it' might have been, we saw it last night.”

What did Helton see Sunday?

A fine and losing points is a slap on the wrist for Gordon. Why isn't he sitting out this weekend's season finale? Come on, NASCAR, tell us why.
