AN AIR BOAT is being raffled by Fort Yuma Rotary to help eradicate polio and help the Humane Society of Yuma.

Looking for something different to give to someone special?

Only 5,000 raffle tickets are available to win an air boat. The Fort Yuma Rotary Club is selling the tickets at $20 each, and the winning one will be drawn at the club's annual Mardi Gras Block Party Feb. 20 downtown on Main Street.

John Bornt and Joe Wahl are co-chairing the raffle project for the Fort Yuma Rotary.

"The winner does not have to be present at the drawing. And the air boat will be delivered, at no charge, to that lucky person wherever he — or she — lives in the continental United States," Bornt said.

"Ninety percent of the proceeds of this fundraiser will be used for the 25-year goal of Rotary Clubs in Yuma and worldwide to eradicate polio. The other 10 percent will be donated to the Humane Society of Yuma's building fund," Bornt explained.

This air boat was built in the backyard of Joe Wahl and his son, Kyle.

"It has a three-blade 60-inch prop, with a 100-horsepower Volkswagen engine. It's great for going up and down the Colorado River, as it doesn't need deep water for operating. It is in the boat-building registry," Wall said.
